Leadership and Teamworking Skills: Required for Mariners seeking STCW endorsements as Officers In Charge of a Navigational Watch on vessels of 500 GT or more and for Mariners seeking STCW endorsements as Officers In Charge of Engineering Watch in a Manned Engine Room or Designated Duty Engineer in Unmanned Engine-room Powered by Machinery of 750KW/1000 HP.
Any Mariners seeking an original or renewing an STCW endorsement as Master of Vessels of less than 500 GT that are limited to Near-Coastal Waters or OICNW of Vessels of less than 500 GT that are limited to Near-Coastal Waters are NOT required to provide evidence of successfully completing the Leadership and Managerial Skills or Leadership and Teamworking Skills courses of instruction as outlined in the STCW Code.
Mariners successfully completing the Leadership and Teamworking Skill course will have demonstrated the competency to meet the standard and Application of Leadership and Teamworking skills in Tables A-II-1 and A-III/3 of the STCW Code, as amended, PROVIDED the applicant can show evidence of completing an approved Bridge Resource Management (BRM) or Engine Room Resource Management (ERM) Course.
This course is required for Master and Chief Mate on ships of 500 gross tons or more and Chief Engineer and Second Engineer Officer on ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 3000 KW or more. A variety of exercises including use of the simulator will be utilized emphasizing teamwork skills.
