Lido Level 1 Beginning Sailing is one of two entry-level sailing classes we offer.  The other option for beginners is our Harbor 20 Level 1.
Prerequisite: Participants must be at least 14 years old and able to swim 50 yards.

If you have never sailed before or just have a little experience sailing with others, this is the class for you. Students gain confidence and learn fundamental skills through a combination of dockside instruction and hands-on practice in Lido 14 dinghies. Instruction covers sailing theory, points of sail, basic terminology, tacking, gybing, safety practices, knots, and docking. Because dinghy sailing is a physical activity, participants should expect an active experience that engages both mind and body. Approximately eighty percent of class time is spent outdoors sailing within Newport Bay. Students sail in small groups of two or three per boat, creating an ideal environment for learning and practice.
