Elementary First Aid Module (8 hours)
This Elementary First Aid course, approved by the U.S. Coast Guard, meets the STCW Code Table A-VI/1-3 requirements and aligns with 46 CFR 11.302(a)(3), 46 CFR 12.602(a)(3), and the first aid and CPR training standards of 46 CFR 11.201(i)(1). It focuses on essential first aid skills tailored to the unique demands of the maritime environment, preparing mariners to respond effectively to medical emergencies at sea.
Course Content:
  • Primary Assessment and Response: Teaches rapid assessment techniques and emergency response for medical incidents commonly encountered aboard vessels, including assessing the scene, prioritizing injuries, and initial care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) & CPR: Covers American Red Cross-approved CPR techniques and life-saving interventions essential for maintaining vital functions during critical situations.
  • Injury Management & Wound Care: Focuses on shipboard injury management, addressing burns, fractures, and soft tissue injuries, with hands-on training in bandaging and immobilization.
  • Medical Emergencies Response: Covers management of medical emergencies such as shock, hypothermia, and cardiac issues, with training on procedures tailored for remote maritime settings.
Certification: Upon satisfactory completion, students receive:
  • American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification
  • USCG-approved Certificates of Completion for compliance with 46 CFR and STCW Code, valid for submission to the USCG for credentialing or license endorsement within one year.

Please read:  Prerequisites: Students must possess adequate swimming ability and physical fitness to perform all practical exercises effectively. This training is mandatory for mariners with licenses exceeding 200 GT, Able Seamen, and mariners operating vessels under 200 GT carrying passengers for hire in foreign waters.
