Prerequisite: Basic Cruising 1 or equivalent experience on a 35’-42’ cruising sailboat as skipper and crew. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and able to swim 50 yards. Student eligibility will be verified by staff upon registration.
Experience is the teacher as you discover the world of coastal cruising aboard our Catalina 42 Betty. Join us and see how to complete a multiday voyage to Catalina under sail. Your weekend starts off with an overview of safety gear and procedures, and then we get underway and experience a full day crossing the San Pedro Channel. We will pick up a mooring and dinghy ashore to the village of Two Harbors for dinner. The next day we sail down the Catalina coast anchoring for lunch and making landfall at Avalon. We will take the shore boat or dinghy to the pier and explore the Avalon waterfront and decide where to enjoy dinner. On our last day we cross the San Pedro Channel bound for Newport Beach.
Breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided each day. Meals ashore are at your expense. Itinerary is subject to change depending on weather and seamanship considerations. Crew members participate in all aspects of boat handling including steering, navigation, sail handling, log keeping, mooring pick-up, and cleanup.
Class size: Min 3 – Max 5 students
