Update on COVID-19 and Classes at The OCC School of Sailing & Seamanship
November 17, 2020
Purple risk category - COVID update
As you may know, Governor Newsom announced that Orange County will return to the purple risk category for COVID restrictions.
What does that mean for the School of Sailing and Seamanship?
Your safety is our #1 priority. We meet all social distancing and cleaning requirements so come escape and enjoy some time on Newport Bay.
- We continue to remain open for member rentals
- Classes are conducted outside and in small group sizes
- Everyone is required to wear masks and sanitize hands often
- Reduced office and store occupancy
Dear OCC School of Sailing & Seamanship Community,
Let’s go Sailing!
We are excited to announce that we have been given permission to re-open our adult sailing and member rental programs. Your patience and continued interest in our programs the last 6-month has kept us pushing for this opportunity to get back on the water with you.
Class schedules are being updated and classes re-activated. To comply with the permissions we have been given there will be revisions to previously printed dates and not all classes scheduled for fall 2020 will go forward, so be sure to check our website regularly for an updated schedule of classes.
We have implemented additional health and safety guidelines for keeping our students, staff and visitors healthy and these guidelines will remain in effect through Fall and into 2021. Your partnership in observing our guidelines for social distancing, face coverings and daily health checks is essential for the continued success of our programs.
To re-open we have implemented guidelines for keeping our students, staff, and visitors healthy.
The OCC School of Sailing & Seamanship is following OCC and CDC guidelines to help protect you and our learning community. We encourage students to consider others as well as themselves and to take responsibility for their own health and safety amid the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. Student protocols for safe participation include:
- Staying home if you are feeling sick.
- Wearing a facial covering during class and in common spaces.
- Social distancing, which includes six feet of separation.
- Refraining from eating or drinking while in the classroom.
With Covid-19 still active in our community the possibility of another closure is real. In the event that we need to close or cancel classes again, affected participants will be contacted directly. Course fees may be converted to a voucher, or refunded minus any transaction fees.
We look forward to seeing you on the water soon.
